  • Five-Year Option: 2,000 hours within the previous five years, with at least 144 in the most recent year

Knowledge Professional Pathway

For roles that apply critical care knowledge without direct bedside care (educators, managers, case managers, administrators):

  • 1,040 hours within the previous two years
  • At least 260 hours in the most recent year

All hours must be completed in U.S. or Canada-based acute/critical care facilities and be verifiable by a clinical supervisor, RN colleague, or physician.

Exam Cost

AACN members pay $255 for the exam, while non-members pay $370. Retake fees are available at a discounted rate. Additional costs may include study materials and review courses offered through AACN.
